Our Lord and Savior revealed to us His decision to gather our precious one home on July 14, 2024. LaKeesha Mashaun Butler, mostly known as Keesha and Kee, was born January 10, 1975 in University Hospital in Augusta, GA to the late Calvin Butler and Carrol Stallings Butler (Adams).
At an early age, LaKeesha joined Zion Fair Baptist Church in New Ellenton, SC and also participated in Old Storm Branch Baptist Church. Later she served under watchcare at Mt Moriah in Washington DC, where she sang on the choir.
LaKeesha was educated in the Aiken County public school and a 1992 graduate of Midland Valley High School. She participated in the STEP program in Aiken County. She also participated in the North Augusta Jack and Jill Organization, where she often volunteered to represent the club with her saxophone. Keesha went on to Spartanburg Methodist College for an AA in Chemistry, to Clemson University for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Later Keesha would continue her education at the Univ. of Maryland Global Campus for her Masters in Crisis/Emergency/Disaster Management.
LaKeesha joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the fall of 2012 as a Federal contractor with Global Engineering Management Company. She was the Executive Assistant to the Director, in the FAA’s NextGen Office of Portfolio Management and Technology Development. In 2019 she joined the Federal employee ranks as a Management and Program Analyst in the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) (drones) Integration Office. She made many friends at the FAA and became a part of their families. She was known by their children as Auntie Keesha. She loved music and each year would attend many shows. She was especially fond of attending musical performances at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. She joined several homeless advocacy organizations including Everyone Home DC where she served on the board. Keesha loved the outdoors. On many Saturday mornings you would find her with her hiking group or doing some outdoor activity including camping. She joined GoPinkDC, a Dragon Boat Paddling group where she participated in races up and down the East Coast, in support of a dear friend fighting breast cancer. She volunteered her time doing social media for 13th & Joan Publishing. She also worked some weekends at the DC Farmers Market helping a friend sell her delicious homemade treats. She loved helping students, volunteering her time tutoring math, science and GED prep. One of her favorite activities, eating Maryland Blue Crabs on her screened-in porch, and of course with friends. Her generosity, her infectious smile and incredible laugh will be missed.
LaKeesha leaves to celebrate and cherish her memories her mother, Carrol Adams, and brother, Kevin Wesley Butler, both of North Augusta, SC. Step-Dad, Laddie Smith. Her uncles and aunts, Ronald (Ruby) Stallings of Beech Island, SC; Charlie (Lucille) Butler; John (Alberta) Butler all of Belvedere, SC; Mamie (Sam) Stallings, Beech Island,SC. Nephew, Kevin Jacob Butler, Coastal Carolina University and niece, Natasha Gray-Butler of Johnston, SC. Special cousins, Yvonne McNeil, Sue Sutton of Maryland, Cle ester Riley of North Augusta, SC. Great Aunts, Blanche Riley, Justine Butler, Mamie Martin, Mariah Butler and Nellie Garcia. AND many more relatives.
