LaTaunya Nadine Streeter, affectionately called (Midge) entered the world in Washington, DC on December 14, 1965, to her late parents Candas Pate and Ralph Thompson, Jr. Sadly, Midge passed away on July 24, 2024, at Doctors Community Hospital.
Midge completed her education in the DC Public School System, and earned her high school diploma from H.D. Woodson in 1983. She began her career as a security guard and later transitioned to an office administration role at Mildred Green Elementary School.
Over the years, she built lasting relationships with colleagues, students, and parents. After her time at Green, she moved on to work at Neval Thomas Elementary, while also working at Macy's in Pentagon City. Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2019, she continued to work part-time at Macy's until late 2023.
While Midge did not adhere to a specific church, she lived out God's will in her daily life through her acts of faith and her kind, loving nature. She deeply cherished her family and all those around her, always bringing people together and being the life of the party. Known for hosting gatherings and events of all sizes at her home on 6106 Central Ave, she welcomed everyone with open arms and created a sense of community. Midge rarely turned anyone away, always saying yes with a smile and caring for her large family with a firm yet loving touch. She enjoyed traveling to Danville for family reunions, visiting the casino in Atlantic City, and passionately supporting the Washington Redskins.
In her spare time, she loved music, dancing, bowling, attending various events, watching football, going to the casino, and spending Friday nights with the Golden girls playing cards.
Midge was revered as the G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) by her family. LaTaunya Streeter was fiercely protective of her grandchildren and her legacy of love, resilience, and courage will be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters Neketta, Tameeka, Vaneshia, and goddaughter Latonya, as well as her grandchildren Malik, Nakiyah, Jaden, Deonna, and Journee.
She is preceded in death by her brother Dwayne "DoeDoe"Pate and survived by her sister Michelle Thompson and her two brothers Anthony Pate and Timothy Mobley. numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her aunts and uncles Cedric, Curtis, and Celeste, but survived by Aunt Cindy and Uncle Calvin.
LaTaunya's memory will be carried on by her large circle of cousins, friends, and extended family, who will always remember her as a beacon of strength and love.
